Hi beauties! A good country wedding is full of warmth, rustic beauty, and absolute ease. Having a country wedding at an apple barn is just the icing on the cake. Whitney and Michael’s apple barn wedding is an absolute delight, with a casual but beautiful style coursing through the entire day.
Thank you to Shannon Benfield Photography!
Michael and Whitney were married on a crisp fall day in a rural community in the North Carolina mountains. With a beautiful meadow for the outdoor ceremony and an amazing blue sky filled with clouds, the wedding accented the fall beauty. The bride walked through rustic barn doors that were made by her father and the bride and groom said their vows on a wooden platform that was also handmade by her father. The reception was also filled with decor handmade by the bride’s parents that topped off this rustic wedding. They had so many friends that helped will all their details. With all of their families and close friends in attendance, Michael and Whitney had the wedding of their dreams.
From The Bride:
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration for your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?
I wanted a joyful, relaxing, and fun wedding day! I had many friends and family help get my day together the day before the wedding so the relaxation and fun day could be fulfilled on the big day. I had a rustic country wedding which is fitting for the environment of the mountains of NC. I stuck with the navy which was my main color for the wedding and as I had my wedding in the peak of the fall, so I could use any other bright fall colors with navy and it was beautiful!
What were the florals like in your wedding?
My flowers were stunning! Mountain Vision Florists did an absolutely amazing job on my flowers. The arrangement that went on the corner of the arch was beautiful, we spent many hours at her house looking at the type of flowers, how I wanted it to hang and look, she outdid herself! My bouquet was more intense than the other bridesmaid’s flowers, I had the pop of color that went with the navy and fall color scheme!
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look?
I wanted the groom and groomsmen to be a dressy casual. We went with jeans and boots of course & plaid shirts with navy suspenders and bowties, a little bit dressy and a little bit country everyone was excited to be comfortable. The bridesmaids were more dressy, I choose a solid navy dress with a gorgeous back, with boots and pearl earrings. It was dressy but we calmed the tone down with the boots! Both parties were beautiful!
How did you meet?
We meet through my brother actually, they began working together at Mtn. Electric.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
The whole day was a special moment, being with friends getting ready, laughing, and taking pictures, dancing. Obviously, the BEST part was getting married and being surrounded by our friends and family! The night was a blast, and I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat
Did you personalize the day in any way? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
My wish for my wedding day was for it to not become stressful. I wanted a happy environment, I wanted a fun environment, a night that not only I enjoyed and remembered for the rest of our lives, but that others would too and I think that was accomplished! Our bridal party was a hoot, we’ve all been lifelong friends with one another and just having everyone together on our special day was so fun and entertaining.
Some family friends decided to cook the reception food for us, and literally, everyone said, “this is the best chicken and bbq, I have ever had.” They enjoyed being apart of the wedding and everyone was thankful for the food! We provided all the guests at dark with sparklers, in which they “set us off,” I enjoyed this because the kids loved it! We also had a private family friend DJ, Marshall Huffman, and his father Dale. They did my brothers wedding a few years ago, and of course, they had to do mine! They are amazing and kept the beat pumping! It was all around a night to remember!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
I know weddings can be stressful, but my advice to you is to have people help you and don’t be afraid to ask for help, plan beforehand, jot down notes, know in your head ideas you want to try or things you want to place on the tables, how the isle looks, how your flowers look, how you wanna look. Like I said before I didn’t want to be stressed, I didn’t want it to be a stressful day, I wanted to have fun with my new husband but I also wanted everyone else to have fun!
