From the bride and groom:
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day?
Our wedding was really nature inspired. We both love being outside and hiking so we really wanted to incorporate that into our special day. We really wanted to keep our wedding laid back, simple, and fun for everyone to enjoy.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you choose your wedding day look? How did the groom? Describe both looks in detail.
From the start, I knew I wanted a lace gown. They have always been my favorite and I was determined to find one. I only had one day to say yes to the dress since I had moved from halfway across the country to live with my military boyfriend and was only in town for a week to try and get the wedding ball rolling. After trying on dozens of dresses I finally put on my dress and it was the obvious choice, an A-line lace gown with a beautiful train. For my husband, he had his dress blues. Who doesn’t love a man in uniform right?
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We are the classic tale of high school sweethearts. We met when I was a freshman and he was a junior in our geometry class (good thing I didn’t drop my advanced class in middle school like I had wanted to). Neither of us aced that class but it was a start of us becoming best friends and later start dating, finally! A week after I graduated high school I moved 1500 miles away from home to move in with him and after living together for about 5 months he popped the question. We went down to a beach looking for seashells and he pretended to fall but when I ran over to him he was holding the ring and had the cheesiest line ready for me about how he’d been falling for me since the day he met and wanted me to be his wife. Obviously, I said yes and we celebrated how we know how we went out for ice cream.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Of course, the whole day was special but two moments that stick out to me were the first time my dad saw me ready to walk down the aisle and when Seth saw me walking down the aisle to him. Seeing my dad’s bittersweet smile will always be something I remember and that moment will always be special to me. Seth and I decided not to do the modern day first look because we really wanted to keep the moment we first set eyes on each other as I walked down the isle raw and unfiltered. As soon as I saw him I almost started running towards him, but luckily my dad helped me keep my cool and walk as gracefully as I could to him.
Did you personalize the day in any way? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
I’d have to say my favorite personalized touch we had was our guestbook. We had a Polaroid guest book where everyone snapped a photo of themselves either alone or with the group, they came with and all signed it. Some of my bridesmaids snuck a camera away during the reception and started taking pictures of the guest and themselves adding sweet and funny captions of the whole night. It was a really fun way to upgrade a boring guestbook!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
My biggest advice for anyone planning a wedding is that no matter how hard you try, things will always go wrong! For me, the table linen lady forgot about my wedding and was an hour away HA! But just because something didn’t turn out exactly like you planned, or you’ve gotten some unexpected bumps in the road doesn’t mean the day will be any less perfect. Try not to stress because trust me your guests aren’t going to notice that the table skirts are ruffled when you wanted them smooth. The day is going to be chaotic no matter what but just remember to breathe and smile because at the end of the day you’re marrying your best friend and rain or shine it’s going to be one of the best days of your life.
