Hi Beauties! Can we talk movies for a moment? More specifically can we talk “Steel Magnolias” and that amazing wedding? We loved the theme and colors of that wedding, especially the sweet and light touches of blush. Newlyweds Beth and Josh loved the Steel Magnolia wedding just as much as we did and themed their own wedding after the one in the movie. What a creative way to pick out an elegant theme while making sure it reflects your own personality!
The blush theme certainly worked for these two as we can’t imagine a more darling, Southern wedding. Congratulations Beth and Josh! Thank you, Candice Brown Photography!
A traditional southern wedding inspired by the classic movie “Steel Magnolias.” The morning was hot, and a rainy afternoon blended into the steamy evening, but everything fell into place for Beth and Josh’s wedding. The bride got ready at the beautiful Grand Hotel in Point Clear, AL. She went with the newer tradition of having a first look with her dad, who hadn’t even seen a picture of her gown. Then stuck to tradition with the groom, Josh, seeing him for the first time as she walked down the aisle. The ceremony took place at the lovely St. Francis of the Point Episcopal church, and then a buffet reception at Rock Creek Golf Club.
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?
Our wedding day was even more special then I could have ever imagined! The inspiration behind our wedding was the movie “Steel Magnolias”. Ever since I saw this movie I knew that was going to be my wedding! As Shelby’s wedding colors were Blush and Bashful, I chose blush to be my color! We kept the wedding simple yet emigrant as the church and venue we used were both gorgeous as is!
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We crossed each other’s paths quite a few times, actually over a period of about 4 years, we would always joke about going on a date but neither of us ever pursued it. Then one September day we decided to go to dinner together. We ate at Styx Hibachi and then walked around Target. Later that day as I told my mom about my date, where we ate and what we did she said: “you are going to marry that guy, those are your two favorite places!” I had no clue she would be right!
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look?
I always have known I wanted to look like a princess with a big dress! I found my specific dress on Pinterest years ago, took the picture to the bridal boutique and has them order it! For the men, I wanted to keep them as crisp, clean, and traditional as possible. They wore black tuxedos with black vest and ties!
- What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
The most anticipated was the first glimpse while walking down the aisle! I was a nervous wreck but I knew as soon as I saw Josh’s face, I would be ok!
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
The reception was blush, blush, and more blush sequins! Beautiful flowers lightly decorated the tables with blush napkins! The ceremony was only decorated with small white hydrangeas draped on the side of the church pews. All decorations were DIY except for the beautiful flowers!
What were the florals like in your wedding?
The florals were white Hydrangeas, white carnations, and blush roses to keep with the theme of blush and bashful from “Steel Magnolias”!
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
For my favorite part of the wedding was getting to see all the guest at the reception! I believe if you asked Josh what his favorite part was, he would say the cake!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Plan in advance and relax!!! In the end, you are still going to be married!
